Fort Hare students defy order to return to class

Protesting University of Fort Hare students defied their vice-chancellor’s instructions to return to class on Wednesday morning. Dr Mvuyo Tom issued a letter to students on Tuesday instructing them to return to class‚ failing which‚ they would be evicted from their residences.Instead of returning to class‚ the students demanded the university allow them to have a mass meeting on the East London campus. The university refused.In a mini-mass meeting earlier on Wednesday - in the presence of armed police - students decided that they would not return to class until management gave them a venue to hold their mass meeting.Students then dispersed to their respective residences. – TMG Digital/Daily Dispatch..
