Taps in Mmakau village in the North West province‚ which get their water from the Tshwane metro‚ have run dry.

The village has been without water for more than seven days‚ which is affecting residents and their livestock.

“The supply is hugely affected by the restriction issued by the Department of Water and Sanitation to reduce water supply by 15%‚" said Tumele Tshabalala‚ spokesman for the Madibeng municipality under which Mmakau falls.

“The municipality is left with no option but to supply water the community with water tankers in the worst-affected areas‚" he added.

Tshabalala said the municipality‚ together with Magalies Water‚ was looking at drilling extra boreholes to augment the current supply in Mmakau.

“The municipality has also issued water restriction notices to inform its consumers to heed the prevailing situation and use water sparingly‚" he said.
