Several students have been shot with rubber bullets and stun grenades at the University of Witwatersrand on Thursday‚ according to the Student Representative Council. A Wits SRC spokesperson told TMG Digital: “We were on campus and police opened fire at the West Campus. Several students were shot [with rubber bullets].”Wits SRC said the students were protesting peacefully when police used rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse them.On its Twitter account‚ @WitsSRC alleged that student leader Shaeera Kalla was shot 10 times at close range with rubber bullets.
