Traffic was heavily congested in Braamfontein on Tuesday afternoon after students barricaded the area with rocks. Members of the South African Police Service and the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) were at the scene to remove the rocks and to control traffic. “Traffic is quite bad in Braamfontein. We are going to monitor the situation until the traffic is gone‚” said JMPD spokesperson Edna Mamonyane. Mamonyane said the affected areas were Jan Smuts Avenue and the corner of Bertha and Jorrisen streets. She said there were no students at the scene and was not aware of any arrests. “We’ve heard of stones being thrown at cars‚ but I don’t know if any vehicle was damaged. “At this stage there are no students on the scene. They must have run away when they saw the nyalas‚” Mamonyane said.- TMG Digital..
