‘Coffin assault’ suspects to reapply for bail
Two men accused of assaulting Victor Rethabile Mlotshwa and forcing him to lie in a coffin in an apparent racist attack are set to re-apply for bail in the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Theo Martins Jackson and Willem Oosthuizen appeared in court on November 16 when they dropped their bail bid on charges relating to the assault on Mlotshwa whom they had accused of trespassing at a farm in Komatipoort.
Police spokesman Leonard Hlathi said the pair would be back in court on Thursday.
“They applied for bail through their lawyers. The matter will be heard at the Middleburg Magistrate’ Court on Thursday‚” Hlathi said.
A video showing Mlotshwa forced to lie in a coffin and Oosthuizen and Jackson assaulting him as lay in it went viral on social media.
