The road paved with drugs: 'Teens flung stash from car as they fled police roadblock'

Two teenagers who fled a police roadblock in the Western Cape allegedly threw drugs worth thousands of rand out of their car as they raced away.

The 12-hour roadblock in the west coast village of Philadelphia erupted in a chase when the men‚ aged 18 and 19‚ drove off before attempting to run away.

“On one of the suspects the police found cannabis and when searching the vehicle‚ underneath the passenger seat they discovered 998 mandrax tablets inside bags‚” said police spokesman Sergeant Amanda Brenda Gordon.

After the roadblock‚ police officers on foot found a bag containing 1500 mandrax tablets‚ 200g of tik and almost 2kg of cannabis strewn along the road.

“The suspects were arrested and are facing charges of possession of drugs. They will appear in court soon‚” said Gordon.
