Police are investigating a suspected bomb explosion in the Cape Flats that injured six youths between the ages of 15 and 20.

It happened in Vanguard Estate near Manenberg on Monday afternoon.

Western Cape police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk said the six men were taken to various hospitals in Cape Town and were in a serious condition.

“It is unknown what type of device exploded and where they got the device from. An unlawful possession of an explosive to cause injury to persons or damage to property case was opened for investigation‚” he said.

No one had been arrested yet for the explosion and Van Wyk could not say how an explosive ended up in a residential area.
