Alleged crystal meth kingpin instructed hand himself over to cops

The alleged kingpin of an underground “crystal meth” operation in Pomona has been instructed to hand himself over to the police within 24 hours‚ the Hawks said on Tuesday.

The priority crimes unit also said that the four men arrested when the “clandestine laboratory” was raided last week are due to appear in the Benoni Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu said that Taiwanese nationals Chi-Yu Fan and Chi-Chin Fan‚ and Mozambicans Orcidio Sitoe and Peters Ngwenya “will make a formal bail application” after they “were remanded in custody when they made a brief appearance in the same court on Monday”.

The swoop on the Thomas Road lab last week involved the the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime‚ the South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau and the Vaal Rand K9 unit - they seized drugs‚ chemicals and drug manufacturing equipment.

“The value of the lab is estimated at R3-million‚” Mulamu said.

“Another suspect‚ who is believed to be the kingpin of this underground operation‚ has been instructed to hand himself over to the police within 24 hours. He will be in the company of his legal representatives.

“The suspects are facing charges of dealing in drugs and manufacturing drugs.”
