Four foreign national fugitives have been caught during an air and land manhunt for a group of prisoners who escaped in KwaZulu-Natal while being transported to Johannesburg.

Brian Jones‚ CEO of SA CAN‚ an emergency response and prevention centre‚ said eight foreign nationals were being transported on the N3 towards Johannesburg when two allegedly broke free near Curry's Post and another four escaped at the Mooi River toll plaza on Thursday morning.

“The two who had initially made a run were arrested. Police‚ farmers and three private aircraft from the KwaZulu-Natal Honorary Officers are searching the Midlands area for the suspects who were reported to be running across farm land‚” said Jones.

According to a social media warning‚ there were 16 prisoners in transit and eight people escaped after breaking the lock of the vehicle in which they were being transported.

The Hawks and Tactical Response Unit are also looking for the prisoners.
