One person was killed and 21 people were injured when a small bus overturned on the R546 Standerton Road between Standerton and Secunda on Saturday night‚ paramedics said.
According to bystanders the bus apparently tried to overtake another vehicle when the driver lost control and the bus veered off the road‚ ER24 said.
“Shortly before 8pm paramedics from ER24 and other services arrived on the scene where they found the bus lying on its side in a veld next to the road. Several people were found scattered around the bus. A man was found with fatal injuries near the bus. There was nothing that paramedics could do for him and he was declared dead on the scene‚” said ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak.
He said 21 people suffered injuries ranging from minor to moderate.
“Their injuries ranged from scrapes and bruises while some sustained several fractures.”
