Two people are fighting for their lives after their car crashed into a truck on the N3 in Harrismith in the Free State early on Sunday.

Paramedics who responded to the crash‚ said the vehicle was dragged by the truck for a few metres before it came to a halt.

The Harrismith stretch on the N3 has been the scene of a number of accidents over the festive season‚ involving mainly trucks.

Netcare 911 spokesman Athlenda Mathe said both the driver and passenger had suffered serious injuries.

"The passenger had to be extricated from the wreckage before being stabilised by paramedics.

"Both patients were transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care‚" said Mathe. The passenger is believed to be in a critical condition‚ while the driver is "serious but stable".
