A high speed impact left a car almost completely wrapped around a tree in a macabre accident that killed one man and left two others critically injured on Monday afternoon at Mondeor‚ south of Johannesburg.

The green vehicle’s right front tyre was bent around the tree trunk‚ around towards the right back wheel.

“A light motor vehicle was found almost completely wrapped around a tree. One man a few feet away while two other men‚ both in their 20s‚ were found trapped inside‚” said ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring.

Paramedics managed to extract the two trapped men but‚ “unfortunately‚ after a short time‚ one of the men succumbed to his injuries. Nothing could be done for the man and he was declared dead on the scene.”

The man found lying outside the mangled wreck sustained moderate injuries. The two survivors were taken to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

“It is believed that the driver lost control of the vehicle. This caused the vehicle to veer off the road and collide with a pedestrian and finally come to a stop against the tree‚” said Meiring.
