Police Search and Rescue divers pulled a body from the surf near a popular beachfront coffee shop on Friday morning.

The body is thought to be that of a 23-year-old man who went missing on Tuesday.

TimesLIVE previously reported that strong winds scuppered the search for a bather who jumped from the pier from the Bay of Plenty pier in Durban on Tuesday night.

He had been swimming with friends when he got into difficulty and disappeared beneath the surf.

Rescue divers responded to the scene outside the Bike and Bean café. Accompanied by lifeguards in an inflatable boat‚ the body of the man was recovered and brought ashore south of the coffee shop to spare the public the sight.
