South Africans struggling to make ends meet

South Africans are finding it harder than a year ago to pay for everything except electricity.

The Ipsos Pulse of the People survey‚ carried out last November‚ identified four items in particular that had become more unaffordable: saving for retirement‚ paying for a home‚ education and food.

Less than a third of the 3 416 respondents said they looked to the future with hope. And 62% were critical of the government's management of the economy.

"It is clear that all South Africans‚ regardless of income‚ feel the pressure of rising prices‚" said Ipsos.
