A man on Friday handed himself over to Alberton police‚ following the killing of Ludi Vink‚ who died while trying to stop a pub brawl.
Captain Manare Ramothela said the suspect is 52 years old. “The suspect is in police custody. He will face a charge of murder‚” said Ramothela.
He would appear in court soon.
Vink was fatally injured on Tuesday night when he tried to stop a fight at Mitzy’s pub where he had been having a drink with his mother.
He was stabbed in the eye with a pool cue.
The 30-year-old was declared brain dead but his heart was kept pumping until Thursday morning when his organs were donated.
Vink’s mother‚ Danlee‚ took to Facebook to share her grief.
“My heart is ripped out‚ my soul in pain‚” she wrote‚ hours before her son was taken off life support. “My darling‚ beautiful‚ kind son‚ Ludi Vink. So pointlessly and savagely ripped from me... Today 9am we say our last good-byes... Every part of me is in pain‚” she wrote.
Messages of condolences have been pouring in to her Facebook page.
Several hours after the machines were turned off‚ the grieving mother took to Facebook again.
“Today‚ even though you were already gone‚ I achingly said my last goodbyes... I love you my boy...‚” she wrote.
