As the level of the water contained by the Vaal Dam continues to rise, consideration is being given to opening an eighth sluice gate

Excitedly calling it "brilliant news"‚ Gauteng's weather service has announced that the Vaal Dam was 90% full as at lunchtime on Friday.

Thanks to the week's rains‚ the service said on Friday morning the dam level had risen by 23‚69% points in the past 96 hours.

Here are the levels since Monday:

Friday morning: 88‚48%

Thursday: 81‚64%

Wednesday: 71‚62%

Tuesday: 64‚79%

Monday: 64‚14%

More rain is expected in Gauteng over the next few days‚ much like the Friday forecast mapped by Weather SA.
