The driver of a truck ferrying cattle which left the Umbumbulu Road and ploughed through a house was seriously injured - but his valuable cargo of bovines emerged unscathed.

It is understood that the driver of the truck had lost control of the vehicle‚ which veered from the road.

No one was in the house at the time of the accident.

Paramedics reported that the injured driver had been pulled from the wreckage by concerned bystanders.

He was in a serious condition and was treated and stabilised at the scene before being transported to a Durban hospital.

A first responder‚ who spoke to TMG Digital on condition of anonymity‚ reported that the cattle had been unhurt.

“They were all good. Just standing in the back of the truck. The driver wasn’t so lucky‚” he said.
