Two people were injured in a shootout at Springs Mall in Ekurhuleni on Thursday.

A policeman was shot and a bystander was injured in the shooting that occurred near the taxi rank at Gate 2.

A South African Police Service source told TimesLIVE that the policeman was shot in the chest. The officer was airlifted to Union Hospital in a critical but stable condition by a Netcare Helicopter.

The woman bystander was transported to Far East Rand Hospital by Highcare Ambulance service

The mall was officially being launched today.
