Train services have been suspended in Soweto due to protests on Monday morning.

Metrorail spokeswoman Lillian Mofokeng said services between New Canada‚ Dube and Mzimhlophe have been suspended from 4am this morning‚ with 20 trains being held back until it is safe for them to travel in the area.

Mofokeng said rocks and rubble had been placed on the tracks but that trains running between New Canada‚ Orlando and Midway corridor are not affected.

“Commuters are advised to seek alternative transport to get to work and school‚” she said.

JMPD spokesman Wayne Minnaar told eNCA the area was “an absolute no-go”.
