Two Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officers have been suspended pending an internal investigation and possible charges of corruption.

JMPD spokeswoman Edna Mamonyane on Monday said the two officers were caught on camera allegedly soliciting a bribe from a motorist.

The motorist can be seen emptying his pockets to hand them literally every last cent he had on him.

The video‚ captured on a cell phone‚ was posted to YouTube by Mikail Patel on Sunday.

“We are preparing a docket for the public prosecutor to help us establish if they can be charged criminally‚” Mamonyane said.

“Internally we will carry on with our investigation‚ separately from the criminal case.”
