The mayor of the Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality in Mpumalanga was robbed and kidnapped before being dumped in nearby Kwaggafontein‚ police said on Thursday.

The incident happened on Wednesday night‚ said Brigadier Leonard Hlathi.

It is understood that Gijimani Skosana had just parked his vehicle at his house and was locking the gate when four men approached him.

“The miscreants allegedly threatened him with a firearm‚ forced him into the house and took a plasma screen (TV)‚” said Hlathi.

“They then shoved him into his car and drove away with him.”

He was dumped at Kwaggafontein‚ where he sought help from locals.

Police later found his abandoned car around Kwaggafontein.

No arrests have been made.
