Fifteen to 20 children have been injured in a collision between a taxi and a passenger car on Monday morning at the intersection of Beyers Naude and CR Swart Road in Randpark Ridge‚ Johannesburg.

ER24 emergency services and other emergency workers found several children either seated on the sidewalks or walking around on the scene of the accident.

“Everyone who was involved in the accident was transported to hospitals around Johannesburg‚ Helen Joseph‚ Johannesburg general hospital and other hospitals due to the number of patients. At the moment local authorities are contacting the parents and families of the children‚” said ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

“The children were aged between four and six‚ had sustained minor to moderate injuries. The driver of the light vehicle was found to have sustained moderate injuries and was trapped in her vehicle‚ which lay on its side. Rescue services used the jaws-of-life equipment to free the woman from the vehicle.”
