Man nabbed with copper worth R18.5m

King Williams Town police arrested a 36-year-old suspect for business robbery and possession of copper wire valued at R18.5 million on Wednesday night.

Captain Nkosikho Mzuku said police were on patrol when they spotted the man.

“The suspect and his accomplices allegedly robbed the King William's Town Eskom depot at gun point at about 11pm last night. The other four suspects fled the scene and they are still at large. More arrests are imminent‚” Mzuku said.

No injuries were reported during the incident‚ said Mzuku‚ adding that the suspect is due to appear before the King William’s Town Magistrate’s Court on Friday on charges of business robbery and possession of copper wire.
