Broken recorders stalls bail application for MTN accountant on fraud charge
The bail application by MTN's financial accountant‚ Branden Ruth Moshabane‚ who is accused of defrauding the company of about R24 million‚ was delayed yet again on Friday.
Prosecutor Bongani Chauke informed the Commercial Crimes Court that the recording machines were not working. "The machines are not working and this is an opposed bail application‚” Chauke told the court on Friday. "The state will prefer it [bail application] be done on record and not by shorthand‚ for obvious reasons."
The court is apparently is going through renovations.
The bail application will be heard on Tuesday.
Moshabane has been in police custody since last Tuesday when she was arrested at the MTN’s headquarters in Fairlands‚ Johannesburg.
Investigations into her finances came after a bank contacted MTN’s management about "suspicious activity" on her account.
Moshabane is alleged to have transferred money from the MTN bank account into her personal bank account between July 16 2015 and April 4 2017.
