Five dead‚ six injured in taxi crash

Four men and a woman have died after the minibus taxi they were travelling in overturned on the R23 Heidelberg Road in Brakpan on the East Rand of Gauteng.

Paramedics say a further six people sustained minor to critical injuries.

The accident occurred in Geluksdal near Koot Street‚ and motorists are being advised of heavy delays.

“Paramedics along with various other services‚ arrived on the scene to find the taxi lying upright on the side of the road‚” said spokesman for ER24‚ Russel Meiring.

“The occupants were found lying around the vehicle after they were ejected when it rolled.”

Meiring said the dead were found a short distance from the taxi.

“Six other patients were found on the scene. Assessments showed that the injuries ranged from minor to critical and paramedics immediately began their treatment‚” he said.
