Cape Town rail commuters warned of delays after train hits car

Rail commuters on Cape Town’s southern suburbs line were warned of peak-hour delays after a train hit a car in Lakeside on Tuesday.

Two people in the vehicle sustained minor injuries. Metrorail spokeswoman Riana Scott said there were no reports of injuries on the train.

“The train driver is shocked but unhurt. Both train and vehicle are damaged‚” she said.

Scott said the collision happened at 1.35pm at the Uxbridge Road crossing.

“SAPS‚ emergency services and Metrorail incident commanders are on the scene. Commuters on board the stricken train are being assisted to disembark. Both railway lines are closed for the duration of the incident investigation.”

Metrorail laid on a limited bus service between Retreat and Fish Hoek.
