A Supersport cameraman, Fanie Venter, was arrested in Angola after allegedly being found in possession of a passport with irregularities, the SABC reported yesterday.

His wife, Anita, told the SABC that authorities believed the person who allegedly falsified Venter's passport was wanted in the Dominican Republic on drug-related matters. She said Angolan authorities had threatened to deport her husband to the Dominican Republic.

Anita Venter was also concerned about her husband's health, the report said. A spokeswoman for the Department of International Relations, Nomfanelo Kota, said the matter was under investigation.

Supersport spokeswoman Caroline Creasy saidVenter was part of a crew filming the Angolan football league. Venter was arrested on Sunday as he was about to fly home.
