Gigaba again backs calls to stop net and mobile porn
Home Affairs deputy minister, Malusi Gigaba, has again come out in support of calls to stop pornography on the internet and cell phones.
Gigaba recently announced his intention to fast-track the passage of a yet-to-be drafted law that will compel Internet service providers to filter content provided to users to ensure it doesn't contain any pornography.
Gigaba’s announcement follows a symposium held this week during which Government's Film and Publication Board brought together a wide range of stakeholders, most of whom are back the plan.
Legal Affairs Manager in the Film and Publications Board, Dumisani Rorwana said, "Despite recent amendments of the law and other efforts to stop the devastating effect on children who access pornography - it's not enough"
He says: "The law as it stands is not working, so we've no choice but to take it to the next level."
