A 44-year-old SA Airways flight attendant has been arrested in Brazil for allegedly being in possession of five kilograms of cocaine, says the airline.

SAA spokesperson Fani Zulu said on Tuesday Nonnie Nyoba was arrested on Saturday at the Sao Paulo Airport on a flight headed to Johannesburg.

Zulu said Nyoba had been with the airline for 12 years.

He would not give details on how the drugs were found. He said he did not want to say much because of the pending court case.

Another air hostess was arrested in June last year when she was caught with cocaine strapped to her body at Heathrow Airport in London.

Elphia Dlamini, 42, from Cape Town, was found with three kilograms of cocaine with a street value of R1,374,000 (UK120,000).

She was jailed for seven years in September.

The entire crew of SAA flight 234 was arrested in London in January 2009 after the United Kingdom Border Agency discovered 50kg of dagga in three crew bags. A later search revealed 4kg of cocaine.

The crew was later released.
