Looking for a fun outing that won't cost an arm and a leg? Head off to Muldersdrift, west of Johannesburg, for some serious off-road fun at Buggy Parks Go-Karting.

I came across the track recently while visiting the nearby Ngwenya Village, home to a variety of craft shops, restaurants, a glass-blowing factory and a micro-brewery. The last two, alone, are worth a visit!

The 200m track has been open for just two months and owner Garth Butcher's generous help will put even the most reluctant driver at ease. Anyone between eight and 80 can test those motor skills. Just remember: closed shoes and long trousers are the order of the day.

The carts themselves have simple hand controls, are pretty stable and can reach a reasonable speed down the back straight.

In fact the 200cc engines will get you up past 40km/h - which might not sound fast but when your bum is literally scraping the ground, it feels pretty damn quick!

A warm-up lap and six laps cost a reasonable R100 but, if the bug really bites, R160 will buy you 12 laps.

Buggy Parks is also open for team-building events and birthday parties. More information at www.buggyparks.co.za
