TOP NOTCH: The Subaru WRX STI has a proud history of high performance

Following the launch of the all-new, revolutionary Subaru WRX in May, the hard-charging and iconic WRX STI is due to reach South African roads next month in limited numbers and at a value-focused price.

Revered in the motoring world as one of the most exciting performance cars, and having made its debut at this year's North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the WRX STI emulates previous generations, which build on WRX merits such as everyday practicality and value for money.

The new model has a healthy dose of power and improved handling for the performance sedan, which can be used on a daily basis.

Its history steeped in international motorsport, including the World Rally Championship and, in more recent years, circuit racing, the new WRX STI continues to feature the unmistakable elements which have always culminated in a practical family vehicle and a track-driving enthusiast's dream car.

Featuring the motorsport-proven and award-winning EJ25 2.5-litre turbocharged Boxer petrol engine (now producing 221kW at 6000 rpm and 407Nm at 4000rpm), Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, multimode Driver-Controlled Centre Differential (DCCD) and design cues like the wide body kit, infamous rear wing and signature bonnet scoop, the WRX STI is set to continue the legend.

Available in one derivative only, the Subaru WRX STI Premium is fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox and mirrors the new WRX's high levels of standard equipment, comfort and safety.

The WRX STI will retail for R599000 - exactly the same price as the outgoing model. - Quickpic
