SA to become fourth Everest production hub as Ford pumps R2.5 billion into Pretoria factory

Ford Motor Co will invest R2.5 billion to expand its factory in South Africa in order to build a new model that would be exported elsewhere on the continent, its regional head said on Tuesday."This reinforces South Africa's position as a strategic export base for Ford," Jim Farley told a news briefing.Bloomberg reports that the new model in question is the Ford Everest.According to Bloomberg, Ford's Pretoria plant will be able to build 10,000 Ford Everests a year, and will be the fourth production hub for the SUV after factories in Thailand, India and China.Ford plans to start production on the Everest's in the third quarter of the year, and expects to create 1,200 jobs.The R2.5 billion will also be used to expand Ford's production of the Ranger in Pretoria.The company already manufactures the Duratorq engine at a factory in Port Elizabeth...
