A principal found guilty of raping one pupil and indecently assaulting another is out on bail after appealing his sentence.
Theuns Botha, former headmaster of Hoer Volkskool in Heidelberg, Gauteng, had served three months of his 11-year sentence before he was released yesterday on bail of R5000.
Botha was granted leave to appeal his conviction and sentence by the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria, leading to his bail application, which was granted by Benoni Magistrate Ian Cox.
Botha will appear in the high court on March 31 to appeal his sentence.
Last September, Cox found Botha guilty of sexually abusing two former pupils. In November, he sentenced Botha to 11 years in prison.
