Limpopo matric results released

Limpopo has released the last of its matric results, which were delayed because of a "system blockage", education MEC Namane Dickson Masemola said.

As a result of the blockage, 9939 pupils could not get their marks on Thursday, when the rest of the country's matric pupils found out whether they passed their final exams.

No results were available at all at 65 schools in the province early on Thursday, although results at 44 of these were released later in the day.

"The challenges faced by the remaining 21 examination centres, with a combined enrolment figure of 5717 have since been resolved," Masemola said in a statement.

"Today (Monday), I am happy to announce that all outstanding learners' results are released and 100 percent of our 1402 examination centres are now resulted [sic]," he said.

"All our results are now released and we expect all our learners who were affected to receive their results by today to enable them to enrol at the higher institutions of their choice."

His office could not elaborate on the nature of the system blockage which led to the delay.

Masemola cautioned that some pupils might not yet have received their results because they might have to appear before a committee probing exam irregularities.

At the time the rest of the country's results were released, the education department revealed that Limpopo's pass rate had dropped by more than five percent, with a zero percent matric pass rate at nine schools in the province.

Masemola said no effort would be spared to ensure results were not delayed again.

He said that, as he could not make awards at the ceremony on Thursday, another ceremony would be held on Friday to honour the schools and pupils who had made the province proud.
