Farm boy finds his family murdered

Candice Bailey | 08 April, 2012 00:16

Police are investigating a triple farm murder in which a Northern Cape farmer, his wife and his 14-year-old daughter were shot dead on Friday.

When Don Steenkamp, 15, arrived at their house on the Griekwastad farm Naauwhoek at 6pm, he found the bodies of his father, Deon, his mother, Christelle, and his sister, Marthella, in the living room. They had not been tied up.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Hendrick Swart said the teenage boy had been completing chores on the farm at the time of the attack. He is now with relatives.

Crime scene experts were searching the farm yesterday morning.

"We have no idea how the perpetrators gained access to the farm or how many of them there were," said Swart.

He said there had been no other farm murders in the area this year.
