Councillor on assault rap

An ANC councillor appeared in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate's Court on charges of assaulting two senior party members during a re-launch of a branch in North West last week.

Councillor Johanna Nkone Montsho, 57, together with Amiel Sefolo, 55, Aubrey Mokgoko, 53, and Robert Mohale Molefe, 32, allegedly assaulted former ward councillor Emily Tolo and Solinda Mnisi.

The group was deployed from the regional office to oversee the re-launch and the election of new leaders in Ward 17 in Mmakau near Ga-Rankuwa on May 19.

The four were not asked to plead and their case was postponed to July 31 for further investigation. They were released on a warning.

Trouble started last year when alleged supporters of the current councillor launched the branch without involving the majority of the members.
