MWEZENI SENIOR PRIMARY SCHOOL

Nashira Davids | 10 June, 2012 22:27

LOCATED 60km from Mthatha in the rural village of Kulogcorha in the Mbashe Local Municipality:

There are 258 children at the school, from Grade R to Grade 6;

Most of the parents are unemployed;

The school was founded in 1991 and originally consisted of two community-built rondavels;

In 2007 the community built a block of four mud-structure schools to cater for the growing number of children;

Three permanent classes were built in 2009;

In 2011 rains virtually destroyed all the mud structures; and

The provincial Department of Education is in the process of erecting seven prefabricated classrooms.
