HOLD onto your spouses, summer is here.

Global infidelity dating website AshleyMadison.com, which has over 120000 South African members, warns that summer is the season for cheating.

The website's founder, known internationally as the king of infidelity, Noel Biderman, said it is easier for cheating spouses to initiate quick flings and short-term affairs in summer because the season offers more opportunities to stray.

"In summer, a time where flaunting flesh goes hand-in-hand with flirting, most summer flings go undetected.

"This is due to increased weekend travel and summer vacations, which make it easier for cheaters to hide," he said.

The website, which has over 15million members in 23 countries, claims that men tend to cheat for sexual reasons more often than women and during summer their hormones are at an all-time high.

It identified three types of men who stray in the summer: the recreational cheater views cheating as a summer sport; the seasonal cheater rewards himself for being faithful for the rest of the year; and the opportunist cheats only when an opportunity presents itself and he believes there's no chance that he'll be caught.

"Men who are serial summer cheaters are faithful the rest of the year," the site claims.

It came as no surprise after the Tiger Woods sex scandal that golf was the number-one cheating excuse - it allows for a whole day out with a lover.

"Keep a keen eye on your spouses and safeguard your marriage from a summer cheating storm," the site warns.
