AFTER prying into the sex lives of Spaniards, a team of researchers has concluded that richer people - particularly women - report higher rates of satisfaction in the bedroom.

Overall, it appears that Spaniards are happy with the quality and quantity of their time in the bedroom: 90% of men and women said they were either quite or very satisfied with their sex lives.

But after digging through 9850 interviews recorded in the country's first national sex survey, in 2009, researchers at the Barcelona Public Health Agency also found a correlation between socioeconomic status and sexual satisfaction. The correlation was particularly strong among female respondents.

"People of a lower socioeconomic status claim to be less satisfied sexually, which especially applies to women, who seem to be more influenced by these factors," explained lead author Dolores Ruiz.

Conversely, the study, published in the Annals of Epidemiology, noted that people who were more well-off seemed to have a "better awareness of their own needs and a greater capacity for developing their sexuality in a way which is satisfying for them".

Respondents reported higher satisfaction when they had a stable partner (97% of men, 96% of women) as against a casual partner or a series of "hook-ups" (88% men, 80% women).

A recent study by the University of Colorado in Boulder found that people reported higher levels of sexual satisfaction when they believed they were clocking up more nookie time than their peers.

Said lead author Tim Wadsworth: "Having more sex makes us happy, but thinking that we are having more sex than other people makes us even happier." - AFP Relax News
