THE inaugural Just Curious Awards ceremony was held this weekend in Joburg - the only bummer was that nobody except the guests saw Dineo Ranaka do a Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes in 2011.

Just like the English comedian, TV and radio star Ranaka was hilarious and the guests lapped it up.

She kept everyone waiting - including her co-host, Akhumzi Jezile - but when she did show up she was in top form, burning celebrities such as Kelly Khumalo, and foes alike (such as ex-beau and baby daddy, rapper Blaklez). But she also balanced things with some self-deprecation.

"I keep popping [out] babies every second year. Hopefully, next time it won't be with a rapper," she said to gasps.

When the winners of the catfight of the year category were announced (Kelly Khumalo vs Mandisa, wife of Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa; Bonang Matheba vs Poppy Ntshongwana; and Kuli Roberts vs Lerato Kganyago vs Boity vs Savita Mbuli), Ranaka shouted: "Ibiza."

She was referring to the alleged spat between Matheba and 5FM's Ntshongwana over DJ Euphonik on the Spanish island of Ibiza, when the former reportedly pulled the latter by her braids and threatened to throw her over a balcony.

She added: "She's not here, so she can't grab my hair."

When she was announced, together with Matheba and Pearl Thusi as a nominee for the celebrity of the year title, she shouted that it was just between the other two, because: "You can't bet on Bafana when they are not even going to the World Cup."

Later, as guests enjoyed snacks and drinks , Ranaka interrupted the DJ to ask guests to name the one person they did not want to see or hear about in 2014.

Blaklez was her pick: "Abamazi [nobody knows him] . Okay, let's try again then . Malema," she shouted.
