The best thing about travelling to Brazil is that you don't need a visa when you travel on a South African passport. This is fantastic because, as a person who used to hold only a Ugandan passport, visa offices are like a firing squad to me.

A Ugandan passport is so useless that, even if you have one, you still need a visa to get into Uganda.

Now, as a person who has been to a World Cup before, I have to compare tournaments. I'm not one to diss countries, but Brazil should have been better prepared. I mean, if Limpopo can finish a stadium on time...

South Africa does not even really play soccer (you can't call what Bafana does soccer) but perhaps that is why we were able to pull off such a brilliant tournament - we could focus all our energies on the hosting.

A decent roof over my head was difficult to find and though the Brazilian people are helpful they speak only Portuguese, and speaking only Portuguese to an English-speaker is not being helpful.

Everyone tells you to use a language app but that's an exercise in futility.

When I finally translated what I wanted to ask , they told me there was no accommodation because they started preparing for the tournament only on Tuesday last week.
