President Jacob Zuma on Wednesday appointed a new facilitation team that includes his political adviser, Charles Nqakula, special envoy Mac Maharaj and international relations adviser Lindiwe Zulu.

The appointments mean Mbeki will not have any role to play in mediating between the partners in the unity government headed by Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.

Appointed by the SA Development Community as facilitator in March 2007, Mbeki has been widely criticised for being too lenient with Mugabe.

But his efforts did result in a Zimbabwe breakthrough during his last days as president last year when Mugabe, Tsvangirai and Arthur Mutambara, who leads a breakaway MDC group, signed the historic power-sharing deal that resulted in the formation of a "unity" government.

Even after his ousting from the presidency, Mbeki continued to play a facilitation role as the SADC's pointman.

Earlier this month, Zuma, who was asked by the SADC to step in as the new facilitator in Zimbabwe, made it clear that Mbeki's services were no longer needed by appointing a facilitation team headed by Nqakula.

Presidential spokesman Vusi Mona said: "Mbeki was mediating as head of state, he did so on behalf of South Africa. It shouldn't be confusing, Mbeki is no longer head of state. The SADC asked South Africa to mediate, and that still stands. Zuma runs the country and he is the one to determine who should mediate."

But Mbeki's spokesman, Mukoni Ratshitanga, said he had not spoken to the former president and did not know that his boss had been replaced.

When The Times asked him to ask Mbeki if he had been told about the move, he said: "I know he is not in a position to talk right now, he is in a meeting, and I am also in another."

Well, EVERYBODY surely know by now that poor Thabo really couldn't organise a booze-up in a brewery. Yes, he'll set up imbizos and lekhotlas and consultative conferences in search of African solutions to African problems and create the fabled African renaissance, but that's really nothing more than vacuous Thabo-speak, isn't it?

All those lovely acronyms -- Asgisa and Nepad and BBBEE and what not?

Hot air.

There were two reasons why any mediation on the part of Thabo Mbeeli was a disaster and what he did produce was a monstrrosity.

The one reason was that Thabo Mbeki himself said rhat he regarded Mugabe as a hero of his. Any mediation on his part was aimed NOT at finding a solution in Zimbabwe - but too ensure the survivalof Mugabe as President.

In deling with this issue Thabo Mbeki contributed to crimes againstt humanity and chose to -

* instruct SA politicians on all levels NEVER to riticize Mugabe;

* instructed the SA observer group to declare the 2002 election free and fair;

* canned the Gauntlerr and Khampepe report - which indicated the exact opposite and hinted that Mugaqbe in fact lost the election but crooked the results;

* Tried to undermine the MDC by using an ambutious and utterly unprincipled politician Welshman Ncube to try and destroy the MDC *many people believe that Ncube was is in fact a Mugabe supporter)

* despised Tsvangirao and conspired with Mugabe to get the results cooked so as to allow for a run-off - nobody would forget his famous term :There is no crisis in Zimbabwe" in the relevant regard.

* The canning of the generals report sent in to probe state-orchestrated violence in the 2008 elections.

* Protection of Mugabe whilst SA was a member of the Securty Council.

The second issue was persisitent allegations of complicity with Mugabe based on the Congolese mining scam and property ownership in Zimbabwe.

Mbeki allowed all democratic principles to be trampled undrfoot in his hero-worship of Mugabe and could consequently never come up with a positive solution to the Zimbabwe problems. As such he contributed massively to the misery of millions of people.

Thabo's own brother has said that "Quiet diplomacy" was the other southern african states way of letting Mugabe rig elections because they all shudder to think what will happen when their own countries finally get a viable black party that will beat them in free and fair elections.

Mbeki was no more a facilitator of a power-sharing deal than Hitler, Stalin or me. He was focussed on propping up the Africanist racist despot and bashing the Cosatu-friendly MDC.
His intervention was as biased and lacking in objectivity and impartiality as Goldstone's muddle-East report.

This is one of the first decent things the Zuma regime has done.

Mbeki is the son of the ANC so dubious SA media must leave him alone.

The racist SA media must understand that it is only the ANC that has a right of shaming it's own cadres if needs be, but not any other cockroach.

With regard to our comrade MBEKI, we wish to say " Indeed he selflessly served the ANC with distiction" and he shall always be a bank of wisdom for the ANC in times of trouble and difficulties.

Mbeki we salute you and value your contributions to the ANC and our beautiful country South Africa.
