Mugabe was due to be re-elected as president and first secretary of Zanu-PF at the party's congress, which ends on Sunday.

The offending SMS message, purportedly from the Zanu-PF Youth League, urged party members to make leadership nominations "from the floor".

Regular announcements were broadcast on state radio warning delegates against following the SMS instructions.

Zanu-PF youths said they traced the SMSs to Econet.

The multi-million dollar service provider issued a statement distancing itself from the text messages.

The SA Titanic has set sail with Captain Jacob aboard - it is on its way to a new S Africa that looks pretty similar to what you see in Zimbabwe today - there will be icebergs along the way but all the people aboard will party hard !

Smart people aboard the SA Titanic will be investing as much of their hard earned capital as possible -- overseas - like Mr Tannenbaum and friends have done !
