The state's star witness in the corruption trial of former top cop Jackie Selebi, Glenn Agliotti, might slowly be losing his lustre.

This after a second recorded interview with former police crime intelligence head, Mulangi Mphego, was shown to the South Gauteng High Court yesterday.

In the August 2003 interview, Mphego confronts Agliotti over an alleged payment of $1.5-million (R11-million) to Selebi made by associates of murdered mining magnate Brett Kebble.

Mphego referred to a conversation between Agliotti and Kebble's associates, which his unit had taped. Agliotti told Mphego it was "nonsense" that the cash was for Selebi, saying "it is for me".

"I am doing a deal with them [Kebble's associates] where I am saying . it is only between them and I, it's got nothing to do with [the] national commissioner."

Agliotti admitted using Selebi's name. "Right in the beginning, they wanted to meet with Jackie and I asked him and he said no - he said, 'I won't, you must deal with Mphego and Ray [detectives head Rayman Lalla]'."

On tape, Agliotti alluded to a conspiracy in which Kebble's associates wanted information from convicted fraudster Schabir Shaik on former National Prosecuting Authority boss Bulelani Ngcuka in order to get Ngcuka "out".

Agliotti told Mphego that Ngcuka's marriage to former minerals and energy minister Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka was a threat to Kebble.

"There is talk that Bulelani is going . into private business in a mining group. Then he can use his influence over his wife to get [mining rights]," Agliotti said on tape.

Earlier yesterday, the court heard argument over an alleged "top secret" third video featuring Agliotti and Mphego, which featured in a Sunday newspaper.

Presiding over the case, Judge Meyer Joffe said: "It appears to me that somebody has leaked, shown that video with the intention of influencing proceedings."

The mystery video was reported to prove Selebi's defence. Agliotti said he could not remember what he said on it.

Amazing how incestuous this whole thing has become. Now Sheik is being mentioned... which invariably may implicate JZ.

I guess that is it... they will all walk. We've read this script before!

If this is the evidence that Pikoli was presented with, then he has some explaining to do.

Now he even wept in the Ginwala Comm of Inquiry that Mbeki was out to get him. Come on Pikoli with this comedy of errors? built on one man who is more slippery than an eel?

With all the training , and resources is this what the NPA had as evidence?

What kills me is the fact that this is costing us TAX PAYERS MILLIONS.... all for Selebi to walk out of that court, SCOTT FREE!!!!

One wonders how the state can phuck up a case so royally, and BELIEVE they have all the evidence, yet it seems like it will ALL be fizzling out... like a dying starlight!

And the govt tells us the justice system is aye ok!

Serious case of Banana Republic here...

This is indeed looking like a farce - except that the funds which changed hands between Agliotti and Selebi , was not contested .

Why would a convicted druglord be buying gifts for the Commissioner . It is also on record that Agliotti received informers fees - his payments / gifts to Selebi are un natural . Now for the active and passive roles .

If Agliotti paid Selebi - active role
If Selebi accepted - passive role .
Judge Nicholson C stated in Pmb court that "corruption is a bilateral crime . I am sure Gerrie Nel has proof of the transactions - these tapes may just be side shows .

Remember Shaik went down for the active role - he paid Zuma . Sadly , Zuma never had his day in court - in any other civilized country in which law and order is upheld and respected , convicting President Zuma would have been a formality . By the way - has the diary in Mauritius been tampered with or is it behind lock and key .
