This was brought about by the "loss" of 147 R5 rifles from police stocks throughout the country over the past year, said Senior Superintendent Vishnu Naidoo said in a statement.

"(It) provoked serious concerns among top management of the police force," said Naidoo.

Naidoo said these firearms are usually not permanently issued to members as such, but kept in a pool and issued for specific use.

"The national commissioner (Bheki Cele) has directed provincial commissioners and commanders throughout SA to introduce stricter measures to ensure the safety of arms and ammunition," he said.

"These measures would include assigning the R5's to individuals so that there would be accountability as well as ensuring that guns that are not issued are better secured and properly administrated."

Naidoo said three officers from a police station in Gauteng were recently arrested for allegedly stealing and selling R5 rifles to criminals.

"I have already indicated that our police officers who place themselves in such situations must be dealt with severely, both criminally and departmentally" said Cele in the statement.

"It pains me to even try to understand why anybody would resort to unscrupulous acts such as providing criminals with the very means that would ultimately bring harm to their colleagues and themselves - not to mention our defenceless communities, and for this, I am livid", said Cele.

Surely there has always been a procedure of signing in & signing out weapons for use by individuals - the problem is that the fat superior considers it work to check these things, its far better to take the company car down to the local chicken outlet for a snack or be off visiting some squeeza rather than actually doing the job they were deployed to do.

cf3 said she heard in the news that with every assault on malls R4 and R5 are used,
weapens that are ONLY distributed to SA POLICE and ARMY.

Cele confessed that 4.000 of these weapens disappeared out of government safes without a trace to find the culprits.

If true, then the police and army are the criminals. Who is gonna police the police.

Yesterday at the national news 4000 R4 and R5 was mentioned.
This article talks of 147 R5 this year and Naidoo (can one believe and indian?) says:
three officers from a police station in Gauteng were recently arrested for allegedly stealing and selling R5 rifles to criminals.

This is a criminal offence. No names, no details, no numbers etc.
obviously a cover up to protect and the criminal criminals and the criminal police.

Criminal government that should be chased into the sea.

The "Cele" squad and their corrupt ANC cadres deployed in the police are suppying arms to the crooks. The MK types who threatened Asmal are an example of the types deployed in SAPS.

Bullet proof vests might not be just for the Germans ! .
....and anyway, would a Bullet proof vest be any good against an AK , R4 or R5 ?
(Sherman tanks would provide safety!!!!)
