Former Ekurhuleni city manager Patrick Flusk was expected to be cross-examined at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration in Johannesburg, where McBride is challenging his dismissal, but nobody knew where he was.

The city's lawyer, Kennedy Tsatsawane, said: "We don't oppose the postponement, but propose costs be paid by the applicant."

Mornay Crouse, representing McBride, had asked for time to call Flusk. An hour later he said he "could not find him".

The case was postponed to today.
