The youth league this morning accused NUM secretary-general Frans Baleni of being a "spokesperson of capitalists" after they backed Godsell, adding that his views did not represent what Eskom workers affiliated to his union were saying.
ANCYL spokesman Floyd Shivambu said Eskom workers who support transformation have spoken out against “the victimisation of their embattled chief executive officer Jacob Maroga”.
"The NUM General Secretary (Baleni) has despite the workers’ action in ESKOM, decided to be join those who are spokespersons of capitalists and blindly defend Bobby Godsell. The ANCYL will permanently have a problem with leaders who sit in air-conditioned offices and defend capitalists’ interests against the transformation agenda in the economy."
Lesiba Seshoka, NUM spokesman, defended Baleni, and said: "We are not a branch of the ANC Youth League, we are an independent entity and we have a freedom to express our views.
"We totally reject the notion of labelling every white person as racist and every black person who does not agree with the position of the ANC Youth League as anti-revolutionary."
