They were allegedly involved in public violence during Tuesday's confrontations between locals and foreign workers, station commissioner Superintendent Desmond van der Westhuizen said.

More than 3000 people, mostly Zimbabweans, evacuated shacks in De Doorns when locals claimed they were robbing them of jobs on farms in the area.

Another four people were arrested for allegedly stealing from the refugees' shacks.

Perhaps sometimes some South Africans need to suffer like foreigners so that they will learn what is hospitality or ubuntu. This people want higher wages and the worst thing they are not educated. They did not had to suffer school hardships in order to get better jobs. They demand high wages without good education. If business owners get cost effective people who are available on the market they are victimised. Foreigners are willing to sweep the offices, clean the toilets for very little returns. They have hope that one day they will become bosses. Shame on other South Africans they do not have that attitude.

Such stories have many complex sides. Exploitation by the farmers?

Then again, if I can get someone to give me an honest days work at less cost, then I would.

Quality does come at a price.

Bying into 'proudly south african' just because it is from SA does not work for me....be it labour or a pair of jeans...I look at the numbers...well, almost all the time.

I had Zimbabweans working for me. They got paid the same as their SA;n counterparts. Everybody got on fine till last year during the outbreaks. They had no choice but to pack their bags, leave their furniture and waai. Very sad. I miss them, not because they are Zimbabweans and worked well, but because they had an intelect unique...something I find lacking at home..

Nomakanjane's comment that "...the country will go up in flames!!!" has some bizarre merit on my comment:

Last night, a former farmer in the De Doorns area (who sold the farm years ago, but who still resides in a farm house there as a tenant only) had his home burgled and then burned (“...up in flames...”) to the ground. NOTHING in the home could be saved. Fortunately (perhaps) the family was not at home at the time of the incident. These statements are FACTS - not hearsay.

I find the actions and timing too coincidental to consider that it has nothing to do with the current unsettling situation in De Doorns. I have to wonder, WHY THIS house? Because no-one was home and it was an easy target? Most probably. If so, I think it is a cowardly attempt at solving a problem(s). I also wonder what was the point of burning it to the ground? What do "you" think "you" have gained by these actions? Are you feeling powerful and assertive now and that you have solved “your” problem(s)? Wake up and realise that VIOLENCE DOES NOT SOLVE ANY PROBLEMS!! It only creates MORE problems!

One perpetrator was arrested today with some of the stolen property in his possession. In jail, he stated that he will be back, as he plans to burn more house(s). Another FACT. (Unfortunately, I have to believe him. Presently, I have little trust in our country's judicial system and believe that he will not remain in jail for very long).

Another “coincidence” is that 27 rapes were, allegedly, reported in the De Doorns area alone over this past weekend alone. De Doorns consists of a very small community (approximately 10 000 according to http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?p=3351695). If these numbers of 27 rape victims are correct – I believe it is completely unacceptable and horrendous.

Yes, I do believe the opening of the borders from Zimbabwe was an irrational and wrong decision from the ANC. However, the government is now seemingly “bearing the fruits” of their decision??!! Did I see this catastrophe coming? Of course! Did the government? Clearly not!

The point I wish to make is that this “xenophobic reaction” in (not only) De Doorns has far reaching effects – much more than what the media is currently showing us. Should this farmer I mentioned (and the alleged rape victims) decide to relocate to seemingly safer areas, the De Doorns community (or others) will lose their monetary input and the community will be even poorer. In plain English: Less residents means less support and money spent in that area, means a poorer community, means less jobs, means more poverty, means more problems. Again, I wish to state that VIOLENCE DOES NOT SOLVE ANY PROBLEMS, IT ONLY CREATES MORE PROBLEMS. Please correct me if you think I am wrong, but all of what is going on in the De Doorns area does clearly NOT seem to me to be a productive way of solving any problems.
