Calls for genocide charges irresponsible, says Lekota

COPE president Mosiuoa Lekota has described calls for former president Thabo Mbeki and those who served under him to be charged with genocide as an irresponsible and dangerous distortion of the history of the country, the SABC.

Lekota was responding to calls by the Young Communist League for Mbeki to be charged for his alleged mishandling of the HIV/Aids issue during his term of office.

He said for a crime of genocide to be committed there must be a deliberate policy or decision to kill people. He said there was no such decision either by the ANC or Cabinet.

Lekota's statement comes just a week after youth leader Julius Malema said the ANC Youth League would not allow Mbeki to be charged with genocide.

"We must not charge one of our own. If we allow that, the same thing would happen to [Zimbabwean President Robert] Mugabe, and the same would happen to [President Jacob] Zuma, and the next thing you know they will come for you," Malema said.

NO LEKOTA! 300 000 deaths by beetroot and snake oil is irresponsible.

This is for the International court for justice (ICJ) to decide and not an issue for politicians.

Let's be clear about this Thabo And Manto were killing people by deliberately refusing ARV'S as they were too" toxic" yet they were supporting quackery and snake oil peddlers.

They and the ANC openly attacked doctors and NGO'S who were providing free ARV's to dying patients in a DESPERATE attempt to save their patients lives.

Lekota is still a loyal praise-singer for poor old redeployed Thabo, who was such a total utter flop as the president.

Thabo is an idiot deluxe and should either be charged with something or given up to be kicked repeatedly in the face for employing a cretin like Manto in the first place. Under his watch the rot started in earnest with cops raping civilians ( http://www.news24.com/Content/SouthAfrica/News/1059/d787302ff1e34dc0bb497f59ca1ff312/24-11-2009-07-28/Cop_rape_Husband_in_court ) total corruption and nepotism. So whatever he is charged with, it should happen and his drunken sidekick Manto should be right there beside him in the dock. You can have a bunch of charged leveled against her including being ugly and dumb as mud. People like this should never be in positions where the have to be driven around in black cars. Fools!!

There is no distortion of history. People are dying and are still dying because of him and his warped ideas. Warped ideas whether they belong to Verwoerd or to Mbeki remains warped.

meerkat u r sick in da head. u can not hold accountable a president or a minister or a premier or mec when some1 has been raped or killed etc. That's for the police to investigate and for the courts to make pronouncement on. Take your emotions out of the argument and say your story

Mshibe if a president or minister cannot be held accountable for wrongdoings as result of his/her policy, then surely Verwoerd cannot be held accountable for what the police and state did under apartheid?
