Four people were killed in a head-on collision on the N6 between Queenstown and Cathcart on Sunday morning, Eastern Cape traffic officials said.

"It happened at 6am when a bus conveying children collided with a sedan. It was a head-on collision. All the occupants of the sedan, two males and two females, died on the spot," said Arrive Alive spokesman Tshepo Machaea.

No one on the bus was injured.

A single lane of the N6 was closed while officials cleared the road.

Police were investigating the cause of the accident.
